Carl Schmitt is the most prominent and profound legal philosopher of the twentieth century, and he offers one of the clearest critiques of liberal constitutionalism within the Western tradition. He is studied at nearly all major universities and in most law schools across the United States and abroad. Regardless of political belief, anyone seeking to understand the nature of power must engage with Schmitt.

Sorry, my original comment didn't make sense so I deleted it. Thanks for your very accessible article on Carl Schmitt and his importance as a political theorist. His name seems to be popping up all over the place these days. Also, many of his detractors dwell on his affiliation with the Nazis. I sometimes wonder if politicians don't want voters to read Schmitt because they fear that his writings will enable them to see how politics operates in reality.
